How to Access Outlook.com via POP in An Email Program

"People say," aphorist Logan Pearsall Smith memorably penned, "that life is the thing, but I prefer reading."
Now, people may say that webmail is the thing, but you prefer an email program? Have it read mail from Outlook.com — in real virtual life:
›› Set up Outlook.com email in your email program on computer or mobile device to receive incoming messages (via POP) and send new mail as well as replies (using SMTP).

How HTML Email Return Receipts Work

Five years ago, Mr. Fairbanks has emigrated from Boston, England, to Boston, New England. His home is already frequented well by the locals. Now, the Massachusetts Bay colony's general court is sending foreign traffic his way, too.
"His house in Boston," reads the order, "is the place appointed for all letters which are brought from beyond the seas;" for "the miscarriage of letters" is to be prevented.
So, the tavern between the streets of Washington and Devonshire became, on November 6, 1639, the first legally decreed post office in North America. If, some 370 years later, you want to prevent miscarriage as well — or at least know about it —, you can have reports sent to your home and office from all around the world:
›› HTML return receipts tell you when your mail has been opened. But how do such return receipts work, and do they always work?

How to Access Multiple Accounts in Gmail for iOS

To see Charles V famously sit on red carpet painted by Titian (or Lambert Sustris, of Titian's workshop), you'd go to Munich, of course, and the Alte Pinakothek.
"Pinakothek" (pinacotheca) means gallery or, more literally, picture box. In the original Greek from which the word comes, both the box (θήκη, thÄ“kÄ“) and the picture (πίναξ, pínax; Gen. πίνακοσ, pínakos) are, I fathom, singular. Luckily, there's more than one painting in Munich's every pinakothek (though Charles V is reason enough alone to visit the old one).
While your main Gmail account is reason enough to open Gmail for iOS, luckily, there's place for more than one account in this epistolekothek:
›› You need not switch iPhones or log out and back in again to get to more than one account's email in Gmail for iOS: set up additional accounts in Gmail for iPhone and iPad, switch between up to five accounts easily and get notifications for all.

From the Archives: Start Thunderbird in Safe Mode to Uninstall Broken Extensions
Everything went according to plan. More and more smoke came up, though, and things got tight. The heat was unbearable in some spots but not sufficient in others. What had gone wrong?
I think I overcrowded the pan. The steam, alas, gently stewed the filet mignon, which should have been browned.
I think I may also have overcrowded my Mozilla Thunderbird extension list — and there's the add-on that keeps crashing the entire application when I so much as launch it...
›› Mozilla Thunderbird does not start? Possibly, it's a faulty extension. Here's how you can launch Mozilla Thunderbird in a special "safe" mode that disables all extension so you can get rid of the problematic ones.
